Legal Question in Insurance Law in Mississippi
We were recently hit by a hail storm. Damage was done to 4 vehicles and our roof. Our homeowners and auto insurance is through the same company. Does the law require them to treat this as a catastrophic event thereby combining the individual claims into one requiring us to meet only one deductible instead of 5?

You have a "deductible" for the home policy and you probably have a "deductible" per each vehicle on the auto policy thus the company is treating you in accord with the contract. You are filing under the "Comprehensive coverage" provisions on the auto policy thus the deductible cannot be waived. However, you need to expend your effort not working towards reduction of the "deductible" as much as increasing the damage claim due to the actual costs of repairs. Make sure you get the vehicle repaired at the respected body shop of your choice and that the costs of damages are fairly "estimated" by the adjuster. Concentrate on the review of the amount of labor and the costs of labor, as well as material cost, when you compare the actual costs incurred to the estimated cost in the "repair estimate" provided.
