Taking care of a sick Family member
Can an Employer fired an employee for having to stay at home with a very ill family member?

Yes and no.
Yes, if they are not covered (for example fewere than 50 employees, you haven't worked there long enough, etc.) or have no notice that you plan to use FMLA to protect your job.
No, if they are required to comply with the act and you do everything you're supposed to do to comply from your end.
