Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Mississippi

Late Fee's

Is it legal in the state of Mississippi to charge late fee's for a late fee of an apartment complex if you and the property manager have agreed and signed on an amount to be paid but by no specific date. My apartment complex is charging me $5.00 a day on late fee's on a past late payment of rent. It was agreed by the ''old'' property manager that I pay XX amount but by no specific date. I signed a document stating the terms. Now they are charging me late fee's on the late fee but my rent has not been late since then. Is this legal?

Re: Late Fee's

I do not believe that late fees are proper unless they are specifically provided for in a written agreement. If a due date is not specified, the rent is due on the 1st day of the month.
