Legal Question in Personal Injury in Mississippi

Who do I sue for slander?

Someone I know told me that he had heard that my husband and I were breaking the law. I'll not go into details, but let's just say it was very much a lie. And I feel it could be damaging if it is being told to others in this community. The person that told me will not reveal who told him this. I even told him I was going to get an attorney to look into a possible slander case, but he still won't tell me who is spreading this rumor. How should, or could, I proceed? This kind of lie is very harmful, and I want it stopped.

Re: Who do I sue for slander?

Even if you can prove slander, you must also prove harm to recover damages. In other words, if you only hear it from one person, your harm is probably minimal. If someone is saying things about you, you'll probably hear it again from a different person and one with enough integrity and/or self confidence to actually share with you the source of the rumor.

Re: Who do I sue for slander?

Ther person who told you this should have enough

integrity to tell you who the slandering party is. As a last resort, I would write this person a letter and ask who the slandering party is. If the person does not reply, you may be dealing with the very person who is spreading such rumor. Your facts are pretty minimal but I hope this helps.
