Legal Question in Traffic Law in Mississippi
Liability
I sold a truck Last August. I thought that the tags were taken off of it when I sold it, but they weren't.And now that truck was reported in an accident on the 16 of this month. What can I do so that I am not held Liable for this accident? I have not seen the truck since I sold it... The police officer that contacted me advised me to have the tags to the truck cancelled and I will be attempting that now... Other than that What can I do about this... ? Thanks for your time...

Re: Liability
Hopefully you have a bill of sale and/or other documentation that memorialize the sale of the vehicle to someone else.
Re: Liability
Gather and preserve any evidence of the sale. Inform your insurance company, and not worry. You can't be liable unless the driver of your former car was doing something for you AND he or she was negligent.
Re: Liability
Unless you were actually driving the truck yourself, there are few grounds upon which you could be held personally liable for the accident. However, to keep yourself out of the mess, you do need to be able to prove the sale with the bill of sale, buyer info., etc.
