Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Mississippi

releasing the amount of the inheritance

I am being told by the executor of which I am an heir is that he cannot release the amount of our inheritance or the net worth of the estate, he stated it's against the law. Is this true? If so when do we found out the net estate worth or our inheirtance amount. If not, how do we found out? will the Lawyer tell me, or is it in the paperwork or documents that I have requested which is the whole file. Thanks for any help you can provide...Miguel

Re: releasing the amount of the inheritance

It is not against the law. Ask your attorney to contact the estate attorney and to review the court file.

Re: releasing the amount of the inheritance

Your inheritance and/or the net worth of the estate may not be ascertainable until several months into the estate administration. However, all of that information is and/or will be filed with the court and is, therefore, public record, so you can view it by reviewing the court file.
