Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Mississippi

What can I do to see the will

My mother died in january 2002. My sister is refusing to let me see the will. She has told everyone in the family that my mother had revised her will and she had both of the wills. If I press her with an attorney to see the will, I am afraid she will just produce the will she wants me to see. She has now put my mothers house up for sale, and it is worth around a million dollars, and i still have no idea if I am in the will. My sister swears that Im not, but she refuses to let me see the will. Also,I am not my mothers blood child. Since I'm not, am I even entitled to anything if she doesnt have a will?

Re: What can I do to see the will

You may be entitled to inherit from your mother under the theory of equitable or virtual adoption so contact an attorney to look into the matter.

Re: What can I do to see the will

If the home is in your mother's name, your sister can't sell it. She can only sell it on behalf of your mother's estate, if she has been appointed as the executrix of the estate. If that has been done, there is a court proceeding and a court file which you are entitled to view to look at the will that was filed with the court.
