A ward or protectee may either cancel the appointment of an attorney in fact (power or attorney) or they may petition the probate court to terminate the guardianship. In one the person merely has top make the cancellation public. In the latter, they must show that they posees no need for the state to supersde their decisions, and that they are competnet and have the capacity. to hanlde their own care and affairs. These are vey seimple explnantions of what can be technical criteria. In the matter you described, it would be in that person's best interest to consult with an attorney that can have access to the specific facts of their situation.

Good luck
