I have been on disability since 08/07 due to a decline in my health. I am unable to return to work,
I have about 5000-6000 dollars in credit card debt that I cant pay at all
My husband is not on any of the outstanding cards and I get $332 per month for my benefits and my medications are eating that up. (some of the medications I have to take there are no generics for).

Well, a Chapter 7 bankruptcy will wipe the slate clean of your credit card debt. And while it is common for married couples to file a joint bankruptcy petition, it is perfectly acceptable for a married person to file a solo petition.
Social Security benefits can't be attached by a creditor. Are you sure you actually need to do anything?
Bankruptcy is a solution that is well-suited to situations where the debtor's monthly income is quite sufficient to meet basic monthly expenses, but isn't sufficient to pay back the debt that has been accumulated. Debt can accumulate as a result of job loss or other temporary difficulty.
Here, the real problem seems to be that your income doesn't seem to be sufficient to meet your ongoing monthly expenses, even without the credit cards. This is the real problem that needs to be addressed.
