Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Missouri
How easy is it to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, including affadavits from creditor, is the process? Is it possible to do it myself? Why or why not?
1 Answer from Attorneys
I'll steal the line of another attorney, who said that "doing your own bankruptcy is like being your own dentist: It will hurt." Theorhetically, it's possible. The court's website is a good place to get started. Do I recommend it? No. The filing fee alone is amost $300. If your petition is not sufficient--and your reference to affadavits from creditors leads me to believe it probably won't be--you will have a short time to correct the problem or your petition will be dismissed and the filing fee wasted. Personally, I won't accept a case that a pro se (representing himself) debtor has filed, but which has problems that I know are going to take some time to correct, and the time simply isn't there. There are 22 separatae documents, + or -, for the petition, and it takes some time to do it right.
