Often the credit card company will call and write to get you to pay the bill. If that does not work, they will (depending upon your contract) raise your interest rate and report your failure to pay to the credit reporting agencies. They will then hire a collection agency to start writing and calling you to try to get you to pay. If that does not work, the agnecy will hire an attorney to sue you for the bill. Each step in the process can increase the amount you owe, but you may be able tto settle for less. If you are not going to file for bankruptcy protection, it might be in your interest to settle the case earlier rather than later, even if you have to hire an attorney to deal with them for you.

Good luck
