Legal Question in Business Law in Missouri
church daycare
hi, i work in a church daycare and they like to judge me all the time and make me feel bad just because i am not like them, they also have informed me that if i am seen smoking cigarettes or if i am reported being seen in a bar by a parent i will be terminated, is that true and if they did fire me would i have a case against them?

Re: church daycare
Employment in Missouri is "at will" and that means that your boss can fire you for any reason, or no reason, but not for an unlawful reason. So your boss can fire you for wearing yellow shoes, or he can fire you and give you no reason, or he can fire you for smoking or drinking if the church's rules permit this. He can't fire you based on age, sex, race, religion, color or national origin.
As a general rule it is very hard to win an employment discrimination case against a church.
You have to decide if the lifestyle changes the employer wants are "worth it" to you. If you need your job, you'll have to toe the line. If you don't like this interference in your personal life, you'll need to find a job somewhere else.
Good luck
