Legal Question in Business Law in Missouri
Was hired to do a roof job almost three years ago.The client paid for the metal up front, when I went back to start the job no one was around, tried for several weeks, then it turned into months.Tried to reach the client by phone,no answer,People told me he left the area, was in trouble with the law,and was running. After all this time, and he never tried to contact me,he files for a judgement.I tried the new number to discuss the situation, but he just cussed me out and would not talk.I do not mind trying to work something out,but what legal rights do I have to try and prevent a judgement being filed. This guy just shows up out of now where, not even contacting me and asking for a refund .Do I have any legal rights. He could damage my working business, and I am just getting back busy after a slow run.I would have done the job,but he was no where to be found.
1 Answer from Attorneys
It sounds lime you need to contact an attorney in your area directly. Undoubtedly, the plaintiff is alleging that you failed to do your part in teh contract. You need an attorney to look at the specific facts of your case to advise you as to what you were obligated to do, when you lost contact with the complainant. It woudl be impossible for anyone to tell you all yoru obligations and legal options in this limited forum. Many attorneys offer a free or low cost initial consultation.
Good luck
