can someone request to be added to an existing contract as a co-signer?

As a Franchise Attorney I can say you can always request. Whether the request is granted or not depends on the willingness of the other parties to the contract. Generally speaking, creditors like to have multiple co-signers. Consult with a good business or franchise attorney in your area for specific advice.
