Stop payment on a check
My wife purchased a dog from a breeder and some required documentation for the dog wasn't provided at the time of sale and she wants to stop payment on the check (or hold payment) until documents are received.

Re: Stop payment on a check
I do not advise this. If you stop payment, then you're probably going to pay your bank 10 to 20 dollars, and if they run the check and it is returned, they'll get stuck for a fee of 25 to 50 depending on their bank. At some point you're going to have to pay their fee and your fees. If you did not get what you should have gotten, then Small Claims Court would be a better way to remedy the problem. Also, if you stop the check, there's a good chance they could claim you were attempting to acquire the dog by fraud.
On the other hand, if you do stop the payment, you should call them and let them know that so that they don't run the check. You should then tell them that upon delivery of the paperwork, you'll pay them in certified funds.
But, again, I don't recommend stopping the payment.
