Legal Question in Business Law in Missouri
I work at Wal*Mart. I have been in this particular store for 3 years. At the time of hire they knew my availability and hired me to work the hours of 9pm to 6am. I had to write this down on an "Availability Worksheet" to go into my file. Now, all of the sudden they are trying to force a "uniform" schedule and are telling us we either conform or no longer recieve hours. I am a mother of small children. I work overnights since I cant afford daycare. I have to leave at six in order to make it home before my husband leaves for work. They knew this then, they know it now. Can they force me to change?? this is an important question, I just cant afford the payment at this time.

Generally speaking, an employer has every right to name the hours that an employee must work. Obviously, you are not in a union, but some union contracts might provide some protection for their members in situations like yours. Unfortunatle, if your employer is not willing or able to work out something wiht you that will fit your needs, you will either have to comply with yor employer's demands or find a different employer.
