Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri

discrimination

My 15 yr. old daughter was asluted by an adult, the police was called. However when they arrived they would not allow her to contact me,she was scared, bleeding alot and her eye was severly swollen , I took her to the emergency room and the doctor requested for a ct scan on her head and the results were positive for a scull fracture. My question is; shouldn't the police have offered her medical attention and shouldn't my daughter been allow to contact me (her mother) We are mexican/american,we are united state citizen and were treated as thought we were immigartes.the arnold police were very rude, heartless and did not even arrest the women who attack my daughter.she was given a ticket for a $100 fine. they said it's just a mistamener. This does not sound like justice was provided. can you help us.My daughter is a good student, she is on the student council, captain of her softball team no body deserves this kind of treatment, the attacker called us sand negers and that we better drop the charges cause if it goes to court , ''YOU WILL PAY'' We are scared and the Aronld Police will not help us. He told me that take it up with the judge. what should i do?

Re: discrimination

If you were called derogatory racial names and told to drop all charges, or suffer reprecussions, that is a threat. It is a separate crime to intimidate a witness in a criminal case. Tell the Police officers again about the threats you or your daughter recieved.

Also make sure to appear at the Defendant's court date. Better yet, call the prosecutor's office as soon as possible. Tell them about the threats you have recieved and the intimidation to get you to recant. They may be more sympathetic than the police officers.

As for the Arnold Police force, it sounds like your situation may be better served in the arena of public opinion, than just in court. You should make a formal complaint with the Arnold Police Departments' internal or community affairs office. Tell them about the treatment you have recieved from the officers involved.

If you are not satisfied that they appropriately addressed your complaint, you should call the media. Let the Fox, CBS, ABC, and NBC affiliates in your area know about your situation. Tell them that the names you wre called and the treatmetn your daughter recieved. There may even be a latin American organization in your area to help you get your greivance out in public.
