"Legally required," is a loaded term. It could have criminal and/or civil implications. It is doubtful that the failure to list a prior landlord would result in a criminal charge. But, the failure to list a prior landlord situation on a rental application, could result in the termination of a future tenancy. That means that if you fail to list that you previously rented property, on an application, a landlord might be able to evict you. Therefore, it is not adviseable to decieve anyone on those applications.
Good luck
