Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri

Can a minor be questioned at school by a police officer without a parent being present or notified in the state of Missouri? My child was made to go to the school counselors office where she was told that the police officer was going to ask her some questions. She was not given any options and was not read her Miranda rights. The counselor also told her that she must come to her office tomorrow to continue this conversation with the counselor. I would not be aware of any of this if my daughter did not tell me. Is this legal?

If your child is under 14 yes old, what they tell the police, is not to used against them, unless their parent or guardian has approved of the conversation. Over 13, is dependent upon the facts of the situation. You should consult directly with an attorney, in your area, before deciding what to do.

Good luck
