Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri

Parental Presence?

My child was not permitted to phone his father when being questioned about a school incident and was distressed by the situation. Because of this, school officials said he was causing a peace disturbance and had him taken into custody at a juvenile detention center and suspended him from school. I was phoned then and told what had happened. He is still upset about what happened and we would like to know if we have any recourse in this matter? He feels he was innocent of all charges and that he just wanted a parent with him while he was being questioned.

Re: Parental Presence?

You were not able to provide many facts about what led up to your child's situation. But, based upon the few facts you describe, you might do well to contact the superintendent's office for your child's school dicstrict. They often have programs for parents to have a review hearing regarding a suspension.

Good Luck,
