Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri
Protection from civil lawsuit
I have heard you can put someone else's name on your accounts (savings, checking, stock, bonds, titles to houses, cars etc, 401 K's) in order to have protection against a civil lawsuit. Is this true and if not how can protect my assets from being taken in case I'm sued?

Re: Protection from civil lawsuit
If you put your assets into someone elses name RIGHT BEFORE a lawsuit the Court can set aside the transfer as being fraudulent. I do not practice law in your state but you should look for an attorney who can create a "trust" for your assets. In Alabama, it is called a "Spendthrift Trust". You WILL NOT have any control over your assets but the Trustee will use your assets for YOUR benefit and those assets cannot be taken from you if you are ever sued. Check with an attorney in YOUR state for specific legal information.
