Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri

My recent employer (of 6 years) called me into the office and accused me of stealing (which I did not). They threatened to call the police and have me arrested. They treated me like a criminal, fired me, and now I am getting phone calls from former co-workers asking what happened and they are telling me that the talk going around is that I had been stealing from the company. I'm sure many of my regular customers have been told these lies as well and my reputation and character is being destroyed. Can anything be done? Thank you.

Yes. You can sue them for defamation if they refuse to settle with you. Prior to filing the defamation lawsuit, you could send a demand letter demanding that they cease and desist, draft a letter retracting their false statements, and pay damages to you.

I'd be happy to advise further at no charge - 417-827-3866.

Hope this helps
