Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Missouri
I'm being sued
Is it mandatory that I open my door if I'm being served a summons for small claims court just because it's a Sheriff's Deputy doing the serving??

No, you could let them nail it to your door, or throw it on your porch, where it will get blown away and then you miss the court date you did not know about.
if the Deputy reports that you refused service and they left it at your residence, the Court may grant Judgment by default when you do not show up for Court. Do you want to run that risk?
At the very least, you should check the Casenet listings under your name, to see when your docket call is scheduled.
Good Luck,
