Legal Question in Technology Law in Missouri

3rd party internet benefits administrator

My company is using a 3rd party Internet service to do time keeping and pay roll. Within the information is my social security number. Is it legal for my company to put my ssn on a web site, even though it is password protected, without my consent? In the future they plan to put benefit info on as well. HIPPA violation? When the benefit info is launched, my wife and sons social security numbers will be on the web site. Neither being an employee of my company, is it legal for their info to be on the web site?

To answer this question requires an expertise in the HIPAA statutes and not in computer or technology law. After all, you want to know what the HIPAA statutes permit, which is not something that technology lawyers are likely to know.

I suggest reposting this question in the "Health Care Law" category. Attorneys who participate in that list are much more likely to be able to help you.
