Legal Question in Technology Law in Missouri

Company Internet Surveillance

Our company is monitoring our internet usage. I have no idea when this started and I know it's legal. I'd gone onto my bank website numerous times prior to my knowlege of this. Is it technically possible someone in the IT department knows my user ID/password to my bank account - and if so - is that legal?

Re: Company Internet Surveillance

They can certainly glean that information from the data stream. However, if they were to use it, it would be a violation of federal privacy laws and could subject them to civil and criminal liability.

You are safer using only your home PC, and never using an unsecured or unencrypted wireless connection. If you are hooked up to a public node, it is possible for someone to capture the data stream from that unencrypted node and gather all your data. Never hook up to your bank on a wireless connection unless you know it is encrypted.
