Legal Question in Technology Law in Missouri

Internet Harassment

It's hard to summarize this shortly, but I'll try. Starting early November, someone began anonymously harassing me through Xanga. It started with misc comments, then got to where they posed as me trying to cause problems with others, posing as others causing problems with me, etc. They've claimed to have seen me and friends at work. They frequently logged in and I know their ISP and they are also using a UMKC computer during the day. A news reporter called me a couple weeks ago from Fox News saying he saw a discussion post about this situation and he was wanting an interview for a story on Internet harassment. I never got a hold of him again and this person has since deleted their account they used for about a month and have been on my site once since. They have created over 60 accounts since this began. They generally create a new account every time they log on, which makes blocking impossible. Their ISP, also my ISP, has ignored me and Xanga has also. The local police say contact the FBI, the FBI says to contact the local police. UMKC won't talk to me about it without a police report but the police won't take one. I assume I'm out of options here? I'd imagine it's just a matter of time before the harassment starts again.

Re: Internet Harassment

I have handled several cyberharassment cases in the last 5 years.

The intitial battle usually is determining the person doing the harassment.

The next step is issuing a Cease & Desist letter from an attorney.

After that, obtaining an injunction may be necessary, followed by presenting evidence to state law enforcement. ( The FBI will not touch it unless is child porn/sex or terrorist related.)

Call or email for assistance.

Has anyone issued a Civil Subpoena to your ISP re: ID of actor perpetrating cyberharassment?
