Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri

can an apartment rental company send a disputed claim to collection without answering the dispute ? And can it try to collect the disputed amount from 4 ex-tenants when only one had recieved an invoice? Security dposit is collected as super-sized 1st month rent.

Students 1,2,3 signed the original lease. #3 graduated and 4 moved in for final months of the lease. 1 month after they moved out, #1 received an invoice for over $300 and disputed that in writing. 10 days after #1 replied to company, 2,3, and 4 got a 'final notice' in the mail saying each owed $300 plus and if each did not pay up fy the end of Feb. 2013, it'll be sent to collection and reported to credit bureaus.

A creditor can send a debt to a collection agent. Failure to send timely mortice (and invoice) to a firmer tenant may hamper the creditors attempt to obtain suit against that particular person.
