Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri
Child Support
I got behind on child support. The division of family service reported me to the credit bureau. I caught my support payments up and have not gotten behind since. Yet they still continue to report me to the credit bureau. The Division of Child Support told me that they would continue to report me to the credit bureau each month until my case is closed. That will be year 2024.
The laws they reference is section 466(a)7 of the social security act, RSMo 454.512 and title 13 of the code of state regulations. These laws state that someone who gets behind on payments can be reported to the credit bureaus. They say nothing about how long you can be reported after you catch up on payments, just that you can be reported. It seems to me that Division of family services here in missouri has taken these laws and interpretated the law to mean that they can continue to report to the bureaus as long as they see fit, because they have been given no time limit.
Something needs to be done to change this because people financial futures are dependent upon their credit report. DFS in their infinite wisdom has decided that they will report it until they can not.
What legal recourse do I have to deal with this if any?

Re: Child Support
You should address this issue to the state senator and representative in your district. They can control how DFS handles this matter.
If the statute provides for continuous reporting, it provides only for reporting of current delinquincies. The old delinquincies will wash off your credit after 7 (seven) years.
Good luck,
