Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri

The city clerk in the town that I live in gave out a copy of my water bills to an individual who was knowingly trying to sue us in court for water damage to a field behind our home. Even though our bill was not allowed into evidence, we are greatly concerned that what we considered our private information was not protected. Can you tell me what the law states concerning this matter and what we maybe able to do about the releasing of our water bill statements?

This is probably a mater for the attorney representing you in the Danette's case to address first. Assuming you have already taken it to them, v you already know that some of the information held by the City is public, and some is private, confidential information. The amount and account number of your water bill may not be protected information. The fruit card or checking account number you use to pay your bill probably are. So is your social security number. You may need to sue the city, (and the clerk) in order to compel them to show you what was divulged to the individual. The city and the clerk may be immune from many suits though.

Good luck
