can you sue an ex boyfriend/girlfriend who once resided together for expenses occured if no written agreement is made.

You can sue anyone for anything, but the real question is, can you prevail?
If you did not have a written agreement, and did not have documentation of that agreement, you'd have a hard time proving that the boyfriend had any intent to share expenses with you. That makes what you did -- paying the expenses for the both of you -- a gift. Gifts do not create legal obligations.
Someone once said that love is blind but a relationship is an eye opener. Learn from your mistake. Don't support anyone but yourself. If you make an agreement to live together, get the agreement in writing about who does what, and who pays for what.
In case you hadn't noticed, there are a lot of men out there who are heels. I would endeavor to point out that there are similar kinds of opportunists with two X chromosomes. Any relationship is better when both parties know what is expected (or assumed) by the other party. Your best bet is to learn from this misadventure and not repeat it.
