Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri
Contract over the Internet
Hello,
One Internet-based company claim
that I have contract with them and
now owe them $15,000. They said
that by clicking on some button and
providing them with my credit card
info I agreed to everything they say.
I was drunk when I submitted my
info and didn't not agree to pay them
that kind of money. Is this contract
legal if I was under the influence of
an alcohol?
Please, respond!
Thank you!

Re: Contract over the Internet
Whether intoxication is a defense to the formation of a binding contract, is a factual matter. It will come down to who can better prove what happened. However, if you could read and put in your credit card number and click the mouse on the appropriate part of the screen, it does not look favorable for you. Did you get any of the goods or services that they say you contracted for?
If the amount being charged is outlandish, the drunkeness may be a means for you to get a judge to reform the contract. Make very accurate notes of your activities the day they say you contracted with them.
Good Luck
