Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri

Privacy

I have a good driving record, had my auto/home insurance for over 15+ yrs.The company sent me a letter of non-renewal in a mth. because of a another adult (I live in their home) let their ins. lapse in '04 for 2 wks. but quickly renewed it.My ins. says nothing about my record but has harassed me about others (all are law abiding with their own cars & ins. coverage not with my ins. co.).My ins. co. keeps getting information on the home owner, present/past residents and divulging it to me without their permission. One senior, 3 adult drivers live here.Does this seem to be a violation of privacy and a form of harassment? For 2 yrs. I have fought the ins. co. and several times they backed off.I have auto liability coverage only, am now a widow/senior (udner 65 yrs.) and I alone drive my car.Is a lawyer my only option? The others also want invasion of their privacy stopped.Have their privacy been violated?

Re: Privacy

I think your best option is to change insurance companies. Lots of companies simply stop offering insurance at a certain age. It's likely not because you or anyone else is a bad driver. Even if they share information (like the driving record) of someone else with you, it probably is not an actionable issue for them. It certainly isn't for you, because you are not harmed by this behavior (other than being annoyed).

Why deal with a bunch of jerks? Vote with your feet and take your business to a different insurance company. Note that I did not say a "better" insurance company because, for the most part none of them are really much better than the others.

If you believe that the insurance company is acting unfairly, you can file a complaint with the Division of Insurance, but don't look for too much help from them. Under the current administration, unless they are engaging in blatant fraud, the state is unlikely to do anything to help you.
