Legal Question in Consumer Law in Missouri

Vehicle title

I bought a car and owe one payment, but the dealer went out of business and can not be located. I downloaded carfax and it shows that a title number was issued. I want to see the car and have been told that if I go to court I can recieve a title, but there isn't a lawyer in town that will help me. What type of court do I need to go to? What do I have to have...forms, papers, etc.? I know it can be done, just don't know how to do it? Can you tell me what I need to do?

Joplin, mo.

Re: Vehicle title

I am not sure why you did not receive the title when you purchased the car. Before making the last payment, call the lender and ask them if they have the title to give you when the car is paid off. Also, contact the Missouri Department of Motor vehicles and them if the title is in your name. If so, you can apply for a lost title. If not, you may need to file suit in the local circuit court.
