Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

When I was 11 years old someone signed up for and recieved a credit card in my name. This account was never paid on and I had no idea because I was 11 at the time I had no idea that my credit was being destroyed until I turned 18 and checked my credit for the first time. The person who had committed credit card fraud was someone very close to me not wanting this person to get into trouble I did call the credit card companies and explain the situation they didn't believe me and it was a lot of trouble I gave up being 18 and not realizing how big of a deal this was. I am now 22 and regret my decision I am having an awful time building my credit I want the credit card companies to pay i realized that it was illegal for them to give someone a credit card in my name especially with me being 11 at the time is there any action I can take or am I out of time and luck?

You may sue both the person and the credit card company, for fraud. But, you time to do so is very short, and may have already expired. If you did nto use th ecard, then you still can raise the fraud as a defense to a suit from teh credit card company. You may want o hire an attonrey to write to the credit card company to see if they will voluntarily relase the claim, and improve your credit record.

Good luck
