Appointment cancellation fees.

Can a Dr's office legally charge appoinment cancellation fees? I am being charged $125.00 for not giving 48 hours notice

He can bill you for anything he likes, but he'll have a hard time collecting unless you signed an agreement whereby you agreed to pay a cancellation fee if you did not give notice. If you signed such an agreement, the doctor can collect, but probably only if he can show that he lost other business as a result of your cancellation. Since most doctors overbook anyway, and you wind up waiting an hour to get in and see them, the doctor or his office manager would have to come to court and substantiate the loss in order to collect.

If you want to see the guy again, you're going to have to pay it. If not, tell the good doctor that you're reporting him to the State Board for the Registration of the Healing Arts for fraud for charging you for services not performed, and see if he changes his tune.
