Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Balance with a College

I went to Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO and My parents got a divorce when I was 5 years old, in their divorce decree it states that I am not to pay for college that it would be split 50/50. By the time the 1st semester was up my mom hadn't paid for her half, now they are sending my name through collection agencies trying to get me to pay the outstanding balance. I've talked it over with Lincoln and they won't do anything, because of Lincoln I have a horrible credit rating and unable to receive any kind of loan. Wondering what I should do?

Re: Balance with a College

If the divorce was litigated in Cole County, there is a good chance you could petition the Court (as a third party beneficiary under the divorce decree) to force your mother into specific compliance with the divorce decree.
