Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Bi-Polar disease and debt

Hi i am 18 years old and my mother is bi-polar, after she divorced my father. She married again and divorced again. Just recntly i found out that he had left my mother with many bills to pay, some she claims are not hers. She told me that that 6 years ago her debt was around 11,000 dollars. She lives of a check of 500 dollars a month and cant keep a job because of her disease (Bi-Polar). She hasn't made one payment on her debt. I am not sure what advice to give her and i do not believe she can get through this on her own. I belive that if she got legal advice she wouldnt fully understand what is told to her without someone there to help her through it. I would greatly appreciate any feedback to help my mother through this problem.

Re: Bi-Polar disease and debt

You may want to ask the Probate Court to appoint you (or the Public Administrator) as your mother's conservator. This is a person who can make financial decisions for your mother and assist her with her needs. The conservator is empowered by the Court to act for your mother.

Good luck
