Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Bouced Check

I recently found out that I bounced a check 2 years ago and there is a warrant out for me. Its a misdeamenor. If I just pay it, will then warrant be lifted or will I have to be arrested?

Re: Bouced Check

Paying on the bad check will not get the warrant cancelled. You may avoid being arrested on the warrant by hiring an attorney who can assist in setting up a "voluntary surrender". In many cases, we can enter our appearance and have the prosecutor and judge agree to allow the defendant to be released from custody on the defendant's own recognizance (no actual bond), or in other cases upon the posting of a modest bond. Then, the criminal charge can either be defended, or plea bargained in many cases with the result that the defendant avoids a conviction. If you do not have an attorney, you may call me for a consultation.

Re: Bouced Check

Usually if you pay the check they will nolle proseque the warrant. But you probably need to handle it through a lawyer. Nothing would prevent the DA from saying "come on down and let's discuss it" and you finding yourself in jail. So, I would talk to a local lawyer about it and see what he can do to help you.
