Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

My checking account was garnished and I was a co-signer on a car w/ex-boyfriend

What can be done when my checking account was garnished due to my ex-boyfriend having the truck that I co-signed for repossessed? Can I sue him?

The only way your account could have been garnished is if you were taken to court and sued and a judgment was recovered against you. The lawsuit should have been brought against you and your ex-boyfriend jointly. The time and place to contest your liability versus your boyfriend's was at that time. It sounds as though you did not do that.

You may still have options, but the time to act is now. You need to see an attorney who represents debtors quickly. Our firm does not handle those matters, but you can obtain a referral from the Missouri Bar Referral Service, or from one of the attorneys that lists on this service here.

Good luck.
