Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
Consent Judgment
I am working out pay arrangements on a revolving credit line that I fell behind on. They agreed to an arrangement, but want me to sign a consent judgment. Their letter said I will still be served so I assume they are taking me to court despite our agreement. They only gave me a few days to return it. I don't understand it. Should I sign? Would it be best to wait and let them get a court forced judgment instead? I know I owe the money and want to pay, but can't pay it all up front. Any suggestions? They did not give me enough time to schedule an appointment with a lawyer. Thank you.

Re: Consent Judgment
I would not sign anything. You should go to court on the courtdate stated on the summons if you are served with a lawsuit. At that time you should ask the judge for a continuance in order to give you time to hire an attorney. An attorney will save you more money than he or she costs you.
