how long do creditors have to collect before time runs out? and from when does that time begin? from the start date of the credit card, or when?

Generally five or ten years (depending upon whther there the agreemnt is supported by a writing).The period starts from the date of last payment or activity on the account. There are variables that can shorten or seemingly lengthen this period.
