Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
Credit card debt
What are my rights in mo court to a credit card collection. I have been served papers to appear in court to settle a debt that they claim is for the amount of 1776.00. the card was opened by me in 2001 with a balance of 175.00 this was an unsecured credit card. I tried to close this card 6 months later but they told me as long as i have a balance on the card that they would not close the account. Is this legal? And what should i do.

Re: Credit card debt
Most of the time we are able to help people in your situation by entering our appearance as your attorney of record in the court case, getting the case continued, making the creditor's lawyer comply with discovery, and in many cases negotiating a settlement which saves our client some money even after our attorney's fees are paid. You may want to consider consulting with an attorney.
