debt collectors

do bill collectors have a right to call around the town you reside in asking if they know you and to request they take a message for you to call them immedialtely.Should folks around town have aright to know my personnal affairs through bill collectors.Not sure what this particular area of law this pertains to but these are my private matters and are no concern of my neightbors.

The conduct you describe violates the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. You can find out more at www.ftc.gov. You should consider contacting a lawyer on this issue. Additionally, you can send the collector a letter telling them to stop the harassment. Send it certified, and keep a copy. If they do not quit, you may have a reason to sue for punitive damages.
