Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
Can an electric company from 6 1/2 years ago require us to pay an unpaid bill? Fairly certain it has been paid, but I don't have records that far back.

If you believe that you paid the bill, then you should nto have to pay it again. But, if you cannot convince the utility that you paid it, you may have to pay it in order to get future service. Perhaps if you go over yoru past bill with the utility, you can collectively firgure out where the disparity occurred. If you had a written agreement for utility service, they may be able to sue you for the alleged outstanding balance up to ten years after yrou last payment or use of the service.
Good luck
