Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Gift Certificate Not Honored Classified as Debt

I booked a hotel & airline flight reservation. The travel agency's agent completely messed it up and because of this he gave me a $400.00 Gift Certificate. When I tried to use it I was told there was new owner's and she was not going to honor the old Agency owner's debt. The agent is still with the Agency. (I had booked my son & his wife's honeymoon trip, hotel rooms in Tulsa, round trip airfare to San Antonio and hotel rooms in San Antonio with them) When the kids got to the airport @ 6 a.m. the agent had booked the tickets for the next month. The hotel res. were fine. He had charged my credit card for all the above though. Do I have any recourse?

Re: Gift Certificate Not Honored

It probably depends on the terms of the agreement (if any) by which the present owner bought the business from the previous owner (if that really happened). Of course, you have no way of knowing at this stage.

You should sue both of them, and let them fight it out between themselves.

Try small claims court. If you need a lawyer, ask your local bar association for a referral.

Good luck!
