Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

II went to Commerce Bank and requested the total amount due to close my credit card account.. I immediately wrote a check on my commerce bank checking account for full amount and I wrote "paid in full" in the comment section of my check. Now I have received a statement with additional charges. Am I legally responsible for the additional charges?

What you wrote in the memo section is helpful. It might have been more so, if you had written it in the endorsement section too. Whether you owe the additional fees is dependent upon yrou credit card agreement, and the form of the total amount due statement. If it was a net payoff statement, it only covered what was in thier system at the time. It probably did not cover any additional charges that hit the bank after you paid by check. You did nto indicate when you closed the account. You said you paid the toal due amount,l but you did nto say you closed yrou account. Many people pay their acocunt down to a zero balance, but that does not close their account. They may, therefore, remain liable for annual or periodic credit card fees. Talk to the bank, and ask waht these cahrges are for. Verify that your account has been closed.

Good luck
