Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Judgement Filed In Missouri

Back in 2002, A judgment was filed and recorded, granted by a judge in Missouri against me for $200,000. Since 2003, I have been a resident and homeowner in Kansas. I haven't heard from the person who received the judgment against me since 2002. No judgment was ever filed against me in Kansas. It's now 2008. Could the person file or(record) the judgment in Kansas even though 6 years have past?

Re: Judgement Filed In Missouri

A judgment remains in full force and effect in Missouri for ten years. It can be registered in Kansas so long as it is still valid in Missouri, or so I would presume. I am not a Kansas lawyer, and you probably need a Kansas lawyer to answer the question regarding collections of judgments based on out-of-state court decrees. But as far as Missouri law goes, it is presumed satisifed if not renewed within 10 years. If you get past the date of judgment in 2012 and the plaintiff does not renew the judgment, it will be presumed satisifed after that point even if you haven't paid a dime.

Good luck
