The attorney for the judgment creditor should wait thirty days, or until the judgment is final before filing a garnishment, and then it takes the clerks and the sheriff a short time to actually process the garnishment before it is served on the employer. Also, some attorneys do not wait, but file the garnishment early since judgment debtors or employers rarely dispute the timing.
