Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri

Judgment Recovery

I have been approached about assigning a small claims judgment awarded in Jackson County, Missouri to a recovery firm. Can a small claims court judgment in Missouri be assigned to another for collection purposes? The defendant works in Kansas but lived in rental property in Missouri. If I want to try to garnish wages, how can I do that over state lines? Is that possibe? I understand interest can be added. How can that be done? What about other costs?

Re: Judgment Recovery

Normally judgments can be registered in other states and enforced through the courts of those states just as though that state's court had issued the judgment.

A recovery firm will take 33 to 50 percent of your recovery. If you are willing to accept that, a recovery firm is a good way to do it.
