Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Missouri
magazine companies/cd distributors
my girlfriend and i have both recieved debt collection notices from cd distributor, i.e bmg or columbia house, and a magazine distributor respectively. the common ground is that neither one of us agreed to the products but the sent us collection notices. she never talked to them or ordered any cd's and i talked to them on the phone. the magazine distributors told me that they would begin sending me issues of the mags after i made the first payment. i got the bill but decided to not go ahead with the purchase. well they decided to send the magazines anyway and then sent me another bill demanding payment. shortly after i recieved a collection notice from them telling me they had sold my account. i don't know what we can do about this. these things are going to harm our credit. what to do?

Re: magazine companies/cd distributors
Immediately send the distibutor and the collector a letter, from and signed by each of you seprately, stating that you deny the alleged debt, and you will nto discuss it until you see verification of the debt. Also, let them know that you intend to pursue them civilly for any damages you might suffer from negative references to the alleged debt, until it is proven in a court of law or equity.
Good Luck,
